Do not take Emgality if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. This medicine should not be used in children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Speak to your healthcare professional before or during treatment if you have a serious cardiovascular disease. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk to your healthcare professional for advice before taking this medicine. It is preferable to avoid using Emgality during pregnancy as the effects are not known. You and your healthcare professional should decide whether to continue breastfeeding while using this medicine.
As with all medicines, Emgality may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Very common side effects include injection site pain and reactions such as redness, itching, bruising, or swelling. Common side effects include vertigo, constipation, itching, and rash. Uncommon side effects include hives. Serious allergic reactions are rare but may occur, with symptoms such as difficulty breathing or swallowing, low blood pressure causing dizziness or light-headedness, swelling of the neck, face, mouth, lips, tongue or throat, or severe skin itching with a red rash or raised bumps. If you develop any symptoms you are concerned about, speak to your healthcare professional or pharmacist immediately.
Always store Emgality in a refrigerator between 2ºC and 8ºC, keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it if the pen is damaged, the medicine is cloudy or has particles, or the expiry date has passed. Dispose of used pens as advised by your healthcare professional and in line with local regulations.
